RG Kar Rape and Murder: Prime Accused Sanjay Roy found guilty by Kolkata Court

The Kolkata court convicted Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder of a 31 years old junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The trial, lasts for 57 days, concluded with Judge Anirban Das finding Roy guilty. 

The sentencing hearing is set for January 20, with the punishment ranging from life imprisonment to the death penalty. 

This case led nationwide protests, leading to the Supreme Court establishing a National Task Force to address workplace safety for medical professionals and gender-based violence. 

The investigation of this high profile case was handled by the CBI.
