The Supreme Court of India emphasised that courts must not take crimes against women, particularly dowry deaths, lightly while dealing with bail and related proceedings.
The observation came in a case where the Court set aside a High Court order granting bail to an accused in a dowry death matter.
Highlighting the gravity of such offences, the Court noted that dowry-related violence remains widespread and deeply entrenched despite legal reforms.
It stressed that statutory presumptions and the seriousness of allegations must be carefully considered, warning against a casual or lenient approach in such cases.
