Supreme Court Adjourns Plea to Save Indian Nurse on Yemen Death Row

The Supreme Court has given an eight-week adjournment in a plea to help secure the release of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya, who faces the death penalty in Yemen for the 2017 murder of Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi.

The NGO Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council told the court there was no immediate threat of execution and that negotiations with the victim’s family for a pardon under Shariat law were ongoing.

The group has offered $1 million as “blood money.” Noting the Centre’s diplomatic efforts, the Court said the plea could be revived if any urgent developments occur.
