SC allows 100% blind law students to use a scribe for CLAT PG

  • Case Name: Yash Dodani And Ors. V Union Of India And Ors
  • Judge(s): Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan
  • Advocate(s): Rahul Bajaj, AOR Sanchita Ain & Others

Three petitioners filed a writ petition seeking permission for 100% blind law students to use a scribe for exams like AIBE and CLAT.

The first petitioner, a 90% low-vision, law graduate, requested to use a computer during the AIBE-19 exam. The second and third petitioners, both 100% blind, sought to use computers, access soft copies of Bare Acts for the AIBE-19 exam, and clarify scribe eligibility for CLAT. They argued that failure to comply with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 violated their rights.

The CLAT LL.M 2025 exam is scheduled for December 1, 2024, and AIBE 19 Exam 2024 on December 22, 2024. The Court will hear the AIBE case on December 5, 2024.
