The Supreme Court recently refused to directly entertain a plea challenging the ongoing demolition drive in Gurugram and instead permitted the petitioners to urgently approach the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi requested the High Court Chief Justice to ensure urgent listing of the matter either at 1 PM or immediately after lunch.
The petitioners argued that demolitions were being carried out without issuing mandatory show-cause notices and that authorities were wrongly interpreting the High Court’s earlier stay on the “Stilt +4” policy as permitting demolition action.
The plea further claimed that nearly 1,500 families could be affected by the drive.
