SC directs six women Navy officers to approach the Tribunal for promotion relief

The Supreme Court has directed six women Navy officers to seek relief from the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) after their plea for promotion to captain rank. 

The officers, who were granted permanent commissions following a landmark judgment on gender equality, alleged discrimination in promotion opportunities.

The SC acknowledged their grievances but referred them to the AFT deeming it to be the appropriate forum. 

The top Court also emphasized expedited hearings in this case, underscoring the ongoing struggle for gender parity and the role of judicial bodies in safeguarding equal worth and dignity for women officers in India.
