The Supreme Court has ordered the Telangana government to submit a comprehensive proposal within six weeks for the restoration of forest land cleared in Kancha Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
Hearing a suo motu case, the bench led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai emphasised that all cut trees must be replanted, affirming there can be no compromise on environmental protection.
The Court appreciated the State's halt of tree-felling and stressed that development should be sustainable and not harm forests or wildlife.
The case emerged from the felling of trees to auction land for IT infrastructure, prompting strong public opposition and judicial intervention.
