The Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to bear the full educational expenses of the Muslim child from Muzaffarnagar who was slapped by classmates in 2023 at the instigation of a teacher.
The Court emphasized that the State must cover tuition fees, uniforms, books, and transport till the child completes school, despite a trust offering one-year support.
The teacher involved, Tripta Tyagi, faces criminal charges under Section 295A of the IPC for making derogatory religious remarks, as highlighted in the plea filed by Tushar Gandhi seeking protection for minority students and accountability in such cases.
The matter will be heard next on October 17.
