The Supreme Court has appointed former Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud as mediator in a commercial dispute between Euro Pratik Ispat Ltd. and Geomin Industries Pvt. Ltd. over 1.7 lakh MT of iron ore in Jabalpur.
The case stems from the Commercial Court’s order returning Geomin’s plaint for non-compliance with Section 12A of the Commercial Courts Act, which mandates pre-litigation mediation. The Madhya Pradesh High Court later reversed the order, holding urgency was shown.
Considering the prolonged litigation and high stakes, the Supreme Court opted for mediation. It directed parties to maintain the status quo and stayed all parallel proceedings.
