In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court ordered the release of a woman from Chhattisgarh who killed her two daughters in 2015 with an iron crowbar, under the belief of being controlled by an "invisible power."
Citing mental health ignorance in rural India, the Court converted her conviction from murder (IPC 302) to culpable homicide not amounting to murder (IPC 304 Part II).
Justices BV Nagarathna and N Kotiswar Singh noted signs of temporary insanity and lack of intent. She had already served over nine years in prison and thus, SC ordered her immediate release.
