Supreme Court Halts Conviction of Advocate Yatin Oza, Issues "Final Act of Forgiveness"

The Supreme Court invoked its extraordinary powers under Article 142 to indefinitely suspend the criminal contempt conviction of Senior Advocate Yatin Oza.

While the bench upheld the Gujarat High Court’s findings regarding Oza’s objectionable remarks against the judiciary, they granted relief as a "final act of forgiveness."

The Court warned that any repeat offense would revive the punishment, mandating a conduct review by the High Court every two years.

Additionally, the bench requested the High Court to reconsider its 2024 decision to revoke Oza's senior designation, emphasizing that the Bar and the Bench must maintain mutual dignity.
