Supreme Court Initiates Suo Motu Contempt Against Ajay Shukla, Youtuber for Defamatory Remarks on Judge

The Supreme Court has initiated suo motu criminal contempt proceedings against Ajay Shukla, Editor-in-Chief of Varprad Media, for making scandalous remarks against a senior Supreme Court judge in a YouTube video.

Though the judge’s name wasn't mentioned in court, Shukla recently targeted Justice Bela M Trivedi in a video posted on his digital channel, Varprad Media, referring to the judge as a "Godi judge" - a derogatory term implying bias toward the Central government.

A bench led by CJI BR Gavai said such defamatory content harms judicial integrity and violates reasonable speech limits under the Constitution.
