SC Collegium Transfers Delhi HC Judge Yashwant Varma, In-House Probe After Cash Found at Residence

The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, moved Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court back to the Allahabad High Court after a vast amount of cases was found at his official bungalow.

A fire broke out on March 14, 2025, at Justice Varma’s Delhi home during Holi. Firefighters found a large stash of cash in a room. Justice Varma was not in town. Officials recorded the discovery, raising legal and ethical concerns.

The full court unanimously agreed to an in-house probe, with the transfer as the first step.
