The Supreme Court has ordered an inspection of Apollo Hospital to verify compliance with its lease deed, which mandated free treatment and beds for poor patients from EWS in exchange for 15 acres of government land at ₹1 per month.
Allegations arose that the hospital failed to do, leading to a PIL by the All India Lawyers Union.
In 2009, the Delhi High Court found that the hospital was not complying with its obligations and issued directions to ensure free healthcare services for the underprivileged.
With the 30-year lease now expired, the Supreme Court has asked for a compliance report in four weeks. If violations are found, AIIMS may take over. The next hearing is on May 14, 2025.
