The Supreme Court has ordered protection for Discovery Communications India staff after they received threats linked to the documentary "Cult of Fear: Asaram Bapu".
The documentary, which explores the controversial spiritual leader Asaram Bapu and his ashram, triggered a series of threats to the channel's employees.
A bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar directed state governments to ensure the safety of the staff and their offices.
The Court invoked relevant provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita, 2023 (Indian Penal Code), including Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 507 (anonymous threats), to ensure security.
