SC Orders Strict Enforcement of Colour-Coded Stickers for Vehicles in NCR to Combat Pollution

The Supreme Court has mandated strict adherence to its 2018 order requiring colour-coded stickers on vehicles in the National Capital Region (NCR) to indicate fuel type.

The Court directed NCR states to ensure no Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate is issued without the stickers, and penal action should be taken against non-compliant vehicles, especially those registered after 1 April 2019

The Court also sought a report from NCR states on how they will enforce the rule for pre-2019 vehicles.

The case also addressed pollution standards for thermal plants and the solid waste management crisis in Delhi.
