SC Orders Stronger Enforcement of POSH Act for Women’s Workplace Safety

The Supreme Court has taken steps to enforce the POSH Act, 2013, the move comes in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Dr. Poornima Advani, which highlighted the lack of compliance with the POSH Act across various sectors in the country.

On December 3, 2024, the Supreme Court issued comprehensive directions to ensure effective compliance with the POSH Act. This includes requiring all states and union territories to appoint District Officers responsible for overseeing the establishment of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in workplaces.

The SC also instructed the creation of SheBox portals where women can file harassment complaints.
