The Supreme Court has issued notice to Asian News International (ANI) on a plea by Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia) challenging a Delhi High Court order for a takedown of a Wikipedia page titled Asian News International vs. Wikimedia Foundation.
A Bench questioned the Delhi HC's rationale, emphasizing that the issue involves freedom of the media.
The page, which contained details of ANI’s defamation suit against Wikipedia, was ordered to be removed in October 2024.
Wikipedia, represented by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, argued that no defamation finding was made before the order.
The Supreme Court has listed the case for April 4.
