The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Ravi Kumar seeking FIRs against six High Court judges and tribunal members, terming it a “scandalous publicity stunt.”
The Court clarified that judges cannot be criminally prosecuted for decisions made in their judicial capacity, even if litigants disagree with the verdicts.
The court emphasised that legal remedies lie in appeals, not in filing police complaints against judges.
Highlighting the need to prevent misuse of judicial processes, the Court appointed former Chief Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar as amicus curiae to assist in examining the vague and unclear plea. (Ravi Kumar vs. Justice C. Hari Shankar and Others)
