The Supreme Court strongly criticised the Central Govt. for failing to notify a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims during the “golden hour” mandated under Section 162(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act since April 2022.
MoRTH secretary informed the court that the scheme was finalised but delayed due to “roadblocks” from the General Insurance Council (GIC).
Justice Oka criticized the government and asked that another agency be appointed if GIC remains uncooperative.
The Court also directed the Centre to finalise the pending scheme under Section 164A within four months. A copy of the notified scheme and a compliance report must be submitted by May 9, with the next hearing on May 13.
