The Supreme Court dismissed the State of Rajasthan’s appeal challenging a High Court acquittal in a murder case, holding that recovery of a weapon with blood matching the victim’s group is insufficient to prove guilt under Section 302 IPC.
The trial court had convicted the accused, but the High Court later acquitted him. The bench of Justices Sandeep Mehta and Prasanna B. Varale cited Raja Naykar v. State of Chhattisgarh (2024), affirming that circumstantial evidence must form a complete chain.
The court upheld the High Court’s view, finding the prosecution's evidence on motive and recovery vague and inconclusive.
