Supreme Courts Halts Action Against Old Vehicles, To Revisit Delhi–NCR 10 year Age Ban

The Supreme Court ordered a halt to coercive action against owners of diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old in Delhi–NCR.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, was hearing pleas in the M.C. Mehta environmental matter. The Court also issued notice on the Delhi government’s review petition seeking to reconsider the 2018 blanket ban.

The petition argues for replacing age-based restrictions with a scientific, emissions-based approach to better balance environmental protection with the rights of vehicle owners.

The matter will be heard after responses are filed.
