Contempt Plea Over Attempted Shoe Attack on CJI to Be Heard on October 27 : Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Monday a petition instituted by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) seeking initiation of criminal contempt proceedings against Advocate Rakesh Kishore, who allegedly attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai during court proceedings on October 6.

A Bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi will consider the matter and determine the necessity of proceeding with the contempt action.

The SCBA obtained the Attorney General’s consent, asserting that the incident gravely impugned judicial dignity and eroded public confidence in the institution.
