Supreme Court Slams 'Horrendous' Translations, Directs AoRs to Ensure Accuracy

The Supreme Court criticized inaccurate translations in court documents, calling it a serious issue. While hearing a teacher’s reinstatement case, it found mistranslations and summoned SCAORA President Vipin Nair.

A bench reading a 1999 tribunal order, translated from Gujarati to English, noted that "reinstated" was wrongly translated as "re-establishment."

The Court condemned Advocates on Record (AoRs) for submitting unchecked translations and warned of strict action.

Nair cited a lack of quality translators, unlike Delhi High Court’s resources.

The bench stressed manual checks over machine translations and directed AoRs to submit original and officially translated documents, while SCAORA committed to urgent reforms.
