The Supreme Court on July 31 listed key issues to be examined in pending petitions related to the legal status and treatment of Rohingyas in India.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan listed key legal issues, including whether deportation is allowed under Indian law, whether indefinite detention is permissible, and whether Rohingyas in camps are receiving basic rights under Article 21.
The Court said it would first hear Group 1 matters focused on Rohingyas in detention camps, stating that clarity on their legal standing will guide further proceedings.
