Supreme Court Admits Indian Express Plea Against Gujarat HC Order on Apology for Misreporting

The Supreme Court has granted leave to The Indian Express in its plea challenging a Gujarat High Court order rejecting its apology for misreporting court proceedings. 

The matter has also been tagged with a similar SLP filed by Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd, publisher of the TOI. 

The Gujarat HC had criticized the newspapers for misreporting its oral observations as final views on August 13, 2023, and found their public apologies published on August 23 vague and lacking remorse. 

The Supreme Court will now assess the legality of the directive for fresh public apologies. (The Indian Express Pvt. Ltd. v. The Registrar High Court of Gujarat)
