The Supreme Court will hear on August 14 a plea seeking the immediate restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood.
Petitioners Zahoor Ahmed Bhat, a college teacher, and activist Khurshaid Ahmad Malik argue that despite the Solicitor General’s assurance during the Article 370 abrogation case, the Union Government has failed to act in the 11 months since the judgment.
They contend the delay undermines federalism, a basic feature of the Constitution, and point to peaceful Assembly elections as proof that there are no security barriers.
The application, filed through Advocate-on-Record Soayib Qureshi, will be considered by a bench of CJI B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran.
