The Supreme Court of India heard submissions challenging the preventive detention of Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act, 1980.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal told the Court that Wangchuk was shown only thumbnail previews of video folders on a pen drive, not the full videos relied upon in his detention order.
He argued that merely showing thumbnails does not satisfy the legal requirement to supply the material, and that four key videos forming the basis of detention were never provided to the detainee, violating his right to effective representation.
The Court continues to examine the materials, including a 40-minute recording of the interaction between officials and Wangchuk, in the habeas corpus petition.
