Supreme Court to decide validity of online gaming law, transfers cases from 3 High Courts to itself

The Supreme Court has allowed the Centre’s plea to transfer three petitions challenging the validity of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, from different High Courts to itself.

The Act imposes a nationwide ban on real money games (RMGs) and criminalises both offering and participation. The petitions argue the law violates constitutional rights and undermines the gaming industry.

The Union Government said that since all cases raise similar legal questions, consolidation before the apex court would ensure consistency in interpretation and faster adjudication.

The matter will now be heard by the Supreme Court.
