SC upholds FIRs against ex-CBI officers in 2000 probe, directs Delhi Police probe

The Supreme Court has upheld FIRs against former CBI officers Vinod Kumar Pandey and Neeraj Kumar, accused of irregularities and abuse of power in 2000 investigations.

A bench of Justices Pankaj Mithal and Prasanna B Varale said investigators must also face inquiry when cognizable offences are disclosed, adding that justice must be “seen to be done.”

Modifying the Delhi High Court’s order, the Supreme Court directed Delhi Police, not its Special Cell, to complete the probe within three months under an officer of ACP rank.

The Court granted protection from coercive steps unless custodial interrogation is found necessary.
