SCBA Survey: Over 80% Women Lawyers Say Careers Harder Than Male Counterparts

A nationwide survey by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), based on responses from 2,604 women lawyers across 23 state bar councils, reveals that over 80% believe their careers are more challenging than those of their male counterparts.

The study highlights persistent issues such as gender bias, harassment, and work-life pressures in the legal profession.

Around 34% reported personally facing gender bias, particularly in areas like fees and professional opportunities.

The report also points to structural barriers including limited mentorship, networking challenges, and unequal career progression, showing that despite increased participation, women continue to face systemic disadvantages in the legal field.
