Supreme Court Grants Relief to Director Sujoy Ghosh in Copyright Case Over Kahaani 2 Movie

The Supreme Court issued notice on a petition filed by filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh seeking to quash criminal proceedings under Section 63 of the Copyright Act. 

The case stems from allegations that his film Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh was based on a stolen script titled Sabak, allegedly shared with him in 2015.

Ghosh refuted the claim, asserting he had never received the script and had registered Kahaani 2 in 2013. He challenged the Jharkhand High Court’s refusal to quash the case, arguing that the Magistrate issued a summons without comparing the two scripts. 

The Court exempted Ghosh from personal appearance and sought responses from the State of Jharkhand and the complainant.
