The Madras High Court held that a wife secretly arranging the marriage of their daughter without informing her husband amounts to mental cruelty in matrimonial proceedings.
The Court made the observation while upholding a divorce decree granted to the husband.
It noted that the wife had conducted the daughter’s wedding without informing or involving the father, despite there being no legal severance of the marital relationship at the time.
The Bench observed that excluding a father from an important family event such as his daughter’s marriage caused mental agony and humiliation, constituting cruelty under matrimonial law.
