Renowned lawyer and Bombay Bar Association (BBA) stalwart, Senior Advocate Iqbal Chagla, passed away on January 12 at 86.
Son of former Bombay High Court Chief Justice MC Chagla and father of Justice Riyaz Chagla, he was a Cambridge-educated legal luminary with a six-decade-long career.
Known for his integrity, Chagla famously declined a Supreme Court judgeship. As BBA President (1990-1999), he spearheaded reforms, including resolutions seeking judges' resignations over ethical concerns.
Chagla, a distinguished civil and corporate law counsel, also contributed to international arbitrations. His funeral will be held on Monday at Worli Crematorium.
