Tamil Nadu Minister Senthil Balaji resigned from the state cabinet after the Supreme Court gave him a stark choice: step down or lose bail in a money laundering case.
Balaji, accused in a cash-for-jobs scam during his Transport Minister, had been granted bail in September 2024 under the assumption he’d stay out of office. However, his return to the Cabinet raised concerns over witness tampering.
On April 27, the Governor accepted his resignation, which was placed before Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih.
Following this, the Court disposed of a plea seeking the recall of Balaji’s bail.
