The Supreme Court recently observed that sex education should be introduced at a younger age and not limited to Classes IX to XII.
A Division Bench of Justices Sanjay Kumar and Alok Aradhe observed while hearing the bail plea of a juvenile accused under Sections 376, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POCSO Act 2012.
Earlier, the Court had asked the Uttar Pradesh Government to explain how sex education is implemented in schools.
The State said it is taught from Class IX onwards as per NCERT guidelines. The Court found this inadequate and urged authorities to take corrective steps.
