Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has sought an urgent Supreme Court hearing challenging the Election Commission's decision recognizing the Eknath Shinde faction as the official Shiv Sena and awarding it the 'bow and arrow' symbol.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Uddhav Thackeray, cited the Court’s 2023 Constitution Bench ruling, arguing that the legislative majority alone doesn’t establish party legitimacy.
With local body elections approaching, Sibal insisted on the urgency of restoring the original symbol. The bench suggested elections could proceed with alternate symbols, but Sibal emphasised the original symbol's impact.
The Court noted the matter could be considered during vacation.
