The Supreme Court enhanced compensation to ₹91.39 lakhs for a 20-year-old engineering student who lost his leg in a 2013 highway accident.
The student, who was riding a motorcycle, hit a car that stopped abruptly without signalling and was then run over by a bus.
The Court held the car driver 50% liable, the bus driver 30%, and the student 20% for contributory negligence due to riding without a licence and maintaining an unsafe distance.
The court restored ₹18 lakh for attendant care and awarded ₹5 lakh for loss of marriage prospects. The Court emphasised that drivers must signal before stopping on highways and compensation must be paid within four weeks.
