Bombay High Court Grants Interim Relief to ‘Social' Pub Chain in Trademark Case Against 'Social Tribe'

  • Case Name: Impresario Entertainment And Hospitality v Social Tribe

The Bombay High Court has granted interim relief to the popular restaurant chain ‘Social’ in a trademark infringement dispute against a Mumbai-based outlet named ‘Social Tribe’.

Citing Section 29 of the Trade Marks Act and Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution, the Court found that ‘Social Tribe’ used a name deceptively similar to the well-established ‘Social’ brand, constituting trademark infringement and passing off.

With over ₹1,500 crore in turnover and 100+ trademark registrations, the plaintiff demonstrated clear brand value and goodwill. The Court restrained the defendant from using the mark to prevent irreparable harm.

The next hearing is scheduled for August 6, 2025.
