Split Order by Allahabad High Court as Co-Judge Disagrees With Remarks on NHRC’s Silence over Muslim Lynchings
The Allahabad High Court recently delivered a split interim verdict while hearing petitions challenging NHRC directions for inquiry into aided madrasas in Uttar Pradesh.
Justice Atul Sreedharan criticised Human Rights Commissions for allegedly failing to take suo motu action in incidents involving attacks and lynching of Muslims, while intervening in matters beyond their jurisdiction.
He questioned the silence of such bodies in cases of vigilante violence and harassment of minorities.
However, Justice Vivek Saran disagreed with these observations, stating that such sweeping remarks should not be made without hearing all concerned parties. The matter will now require consideration by another Bench.
