Supreme Court Split Verdict on TN Ex-Minister’s Wife in Disproportionate Assets Case

The Supreme Court has delivered a split verdict in the case of P. Nallammal, wife of former Tamil Nadu minister A.M. Paramasivam, accused of holding assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.

Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia upheld her conviction, ruling that she was complicit by allowing her husband to register properties in her name, thus participating in the offence.

In contrast, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah dissented and acquitted her, citing a lack of evidence to prove her active involvement.

The case arose under Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The matter will now be placed before the Chief Justice of India for referral to a larger bench to resolve the disagreement.
