Street Vendors Must Maintain Cleanliness, Cannot Encroach Public Spaces: Delhi High Court

The Delhi High Court held that street vendors have a clear duty to maintain cleanliness around their vending areas and must not encroach on public spaces or block pedestrian movement.

The Court stressed that while vendors have a right to livelihood under the law, this does not give them the right to occupy footpaths or create obstructions.

It noted that issues like garbage accumulation and blocking of pavements affect public convenience and hygiene.

The observation was made while hearing a case involving alleged harassment of a vendor, where the Court balanced vendor rights with public interest and civic responsibility.
