Sundar Pichai Faces Contempt Notice

Mumbai court issued a contempt notice to Google CEO Sundar Pichai after YouTube failed to remove a defamatory video, "Pakhandi Baba ki Kartut," despite a 2023 court order.

The video allegedly tarnishes the reputation of the Dhyan Foundation and its founder, Yogi Ashwini. The video remains accessible outside India, causing ongoing harm to the NGO's image.

YouTube claimed protection under Section 79 of the IT Act 2000, but the court applied Section 69-A of the IT Act 2000, to block the video for threatening public order.

The case will continue with a hearing scheduled for January 3, 2025.
