The Bombay High Court directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to donate 50% of the interest earned on a ₹46.5 crore fixed deposit towards the welfare of widows and families of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Court said public institutions must show sensitivity and social responsibility, especially when large sums remain idle during prolonged proceedings.
Emphasising the need to support families of fallen soldiers, the Court held that such a direction would serve a larger public purpose without affecting the principal amount.
The order was passed while monitoring the handling of funds lying with the ED.
