Supreme Court 2025: 3 Chief Justices and 7 Retirements to Reshape the Bench

The year 2025 will witness significant changes in the Supreme Court of India with seven scheduled retirements. Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna will step down on May 13, marking the end of his tenure.

Justice B.R. Gavai will then assume the role of CJI, serving until November 23, after which Justice Surya Kant will take over as the next Chief Justice.

Retirements in 2025:

  • Justice C.T. Ravikumar: January 5
  • Justice Hrishikesh Roy: January 31
  • Justice Abhay Sreeniwas Oka: May 24
  • Justice Bela Trivedi: June 9
  • Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia: August 9

Each judge, elevated from various High Courts, contributed significantly during their respective tenures.
