Supreme Court Acquits Man Convicted of Mother’s Murder Over Weak Evidence

The Supreme Court acquitted a man sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly murdering his mother in 2010, citing major gaps in the prosecution’s case.

Setting aside the Bombay High Court (Aurangabad bench) order that upheld the conviction, the Court noted the case relied solely on circumstantial evidence, with missing leads, unexamined witnesses, and no conclusive medical proof ruling out suicide.

The deceased suffered from schizophrenia, and the alleged property-related motive remained unproven.

Finding that the prosecution failed to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, the Supreme Court allowed the appeal and acquitted the accused.
