The Supreme Court acquitted an accused in a murder case in 1995, ruling that circumstantial evidence did not establish a chain of events which could pin the guilt on the accused, and the prosecution failed to establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
The Court stated that if a case is based on circumstantial evidence, the circumstances from which the conclusion of guilt is to be drawn need to be fully established.
Emphasized there must be a chain of circumstances, not leaving any ground for the accused's innocence.
Accused, Kumar was convicted under Section 302 of I.P.C
