Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Plea Challenging Bodh Gaya Temple Management Act

The Supreme Court has agreed to examine a petition seeking the repeal of the Bodh Gaya Temple Act, 1949, which governs the management of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar.

The petition argues that the Act violates Article 13 by enabling Hindu control over a site sacred to Buddhists, infringing on their religious rights.

The plea claims the law disregards the sentiments and autonomy of the Buddhist community. The bench issued notice to the Centre and the Bihar government, seeking their replies.

The Court will examine whether the Act is inconsistent with fundamental rights under the Constitution.
