The Supreme Court has allowed Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of activist Sonam Wangchuk, to amend her habeas corpus petition challenging his detention under the National Security Act, 1980 (NSA).
The original plea claimed that the grounds for detention were not served. However, the Union Government, through the District Magistrate of Leh, stated that the grounds had since been provided, citing Wangchuk’s alleged involvement in activities affecting national security, public order, and essential services.
A Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria permitted the amendment and allowed limited written communication between the couple. The matter will be heard next on October 29, 2025.
