The Supreme Court has stayed the Bombay High Court’s July 4 order that restrained Maharashtra’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) from investigating the alleged ₹1,243 crore misappropriation at Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust, which runs Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital.
The case arises from allegations by the Trust that former trustees siphoned funds through inflated procurement contracts, forged documents, and fraudulent transactions.
A Judicial Magistrate had, on February 28, directed the registration of an FIR under multiple IPC sections, which was halted by the Bombay High Court. The Supreme Court has now issued notice on the Trust’s SLP, allowing the probe to proceed. (Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust Vs State of Maharashtra)
